This Penguin Classic is performed by Saul Reichlin, known for their roles in War and Peace and Miss Marple. This definitive recording includes an introduction by R.J. Hollingdale, also read by Saul Reichlin.

Nietzsche was one of the most revolutionary thinkers in Western philosophy, and Thus Spoke Zarathustra remains his most influential work. It describes how the ancient Persian prophet Zarathustra descends from his solitude in the mountains to tell the world that God is dead and that the Superman, the human embodiment of divinity, is his successor. With blazing intensity, Nietzsche argues that the meaning of existence is not to be found in religious pieties or meek submission, but in an all-powerful life force: passionate, chaotic and free.

I tried to listen to the other versions of the book but this translation to modern English was the best. easy to understand and very nicely voice acted. especially the arse's YEEEAAAH and the sorcerer's voice made me chuckle.

Well writen and well narrated

This is the best way to experience this monumental book. Narrator is exceptionally good and it feels like Zarathustra himself is speaking to me. This is a must listen/read!

Perfection!

Amazing book that really sees into the fact that
The author had to create his superhero within his own world to express his philosophy

Returning to this work 20 years later I am reminded how cynical, humourless, contradictory, lacking self reflection and generally disagreeable Zarathustra actually is.

There is no group of peoples that Zarathustra does not despise, except for his imaginary Supermen, which are clearly an extension of his own egocentric persona.

FN is one of the most incredible of the romantic poets. TSZ contains some of the most beautiful prose ever written

A warning to our time, but probably not in the manner that FN originally intended.

Extraordinary
