The author takes the real historical character of John Dee and weaves an intriguing story around him and his assistant Margareta as they work to solve the mystery of the body of Thomas Seymour who shows up hung from a tree 9 years after he has been beheaded. Margareta uses her ability to read people's hidden feelings to try to find the answers, an unearths a startling secret about Queen Elizabeth the 1st. A fascinating story, with great, richly drawn characters navigating the perils of life in Tudor England.

A thoroughly engaging Tudor Mystery

As with The Conjuror’s Apprentice G J Williams has written a marvellous novel.
Sometimes the second book in a series is disappointing but not here, The Wolf’s Shadow is absolutely the equal of its predecessor and I can’t wait for the next book.
Ms Williams writes so well that you feel you’re there in Tudor England, seeing people and places, smelling them too. Very vivid descriptions and a thoroughly immersive tale.

Another wonderful instalment
