An SFF thriller where a mysterious, otherworldly tower appears in the sky above the UK with a single word emblazoned above its doorway . . . ascend. A great listen for fans of Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart.

When a mysterious tower appears in the skies over England, thirteen strangers are pulled from their lives to stand before it as a countdown begins. Above the doorway is one word: ASCEND.

As a grieving teacher, a reclusive artist, and a narcissistic celebrity children's author lead the others in trying to understand why they've been chosen and what the tower is, it soon becomes clear the only way out of this for everyone . . . is up.

And so begins a race to the top, through sinking ships, haunted houses and other waking nightmares, as the group fights to hold onto its humanity, while the twisted horror of why they're here grows ever more apparent—and death stalks their every move.

I could not put this down, I didn’t want it to end! A group of players trapped in a twisted game, escape room scenario, with booby traps, my absolute favourite setting! There’s a lot of movies with it, but hardly any books, sadly! As a result, when this came out on Audible, I started it that very evening! I absolutely loved the science fiction aspects of it, and when the scythe came out of the wall, I knew I was in for some gory times! Sure enough, this book did not disappoint!
Just like any good author can do, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions, from sadness when a character I liked fell, anger at one of the characters I absolutely hated, (I think you will too,) 😊 and Hanks even included a dash of humour, I chuckled a few times.
If you enjoy, like me, a group trapped in an escape room type setting, or game, you’ll love this too! The futuristic, science fiction feel to it is also excellent. A group of totally random strangers who don’t know each other, have never met before and from all different walks of life, just thrown together, and are literally playing for their lives.
Really well narrated too, Elliott! He has a brilliant voice for this, I’m going to see what else he’s read! In summary, can’t rate this audiobook highly enough.

Absolutely damn love this!
