The story of Kell Kressia continues in book two of the gripping fantasy duology. Kell, two-time savior of the Five Kingdoms, is now the king of Algany. He has fame, power, respect, and has never been more miserable....

Bound by duty and responsibility, Kell is king only in name. Trapped in a loveless marriage, he leaves affairs of state to his wife, Sigrid. When his old friend Willow turns up asking him to go on a journey to her homeland, he can’t wait to leave.

The Malice, a malevolent poison that alters everything it infects, runs rampant across Willow’s homeland. Desperate to find a cure her cousin, Ravvi, Willow is willing to try a dark ritual that could damn her people forever. Journeying to a distant land, Kell and his companions must stop Ravvi before it’s too late. While Kell is away, Reverend Mother Britak’s plans come to a head. Queen Sigrid must find a way to protect her family and her nation, but against such a ruthless opponent, something has to give....

the kind of book I wish I could reread, the kind of book i wish I could write.

Heroic Fantasy done right.

Really enjoyed this, further adventures of our hero Kel. It was tense throughout as you followed various different storylines, I was a little disappointed by the seemingly very quick ending, I’d have liked it fleshed out a bit more but other than that, really enjoyed.

Great book, well read

SPOILERS- I really enjoyed the story. The characters were good the premise of the malice warping people’s minds was good but the ending/ prologue was disappointing. We waited for the whole book for them to reunite and all we get is a 2-3 sentence convo then a bard talking about their son. I’d much rather have had a more fleshed out ending for them two and even a bit more detail on how it went for kel and willow convincing the alpher.

Very enjoyable but ending felt rushed

As the story moves beyond the five kingdoms and our glimpses into a far larger world expand this makes for an excellent serial.

I enjoyed "The Coward" but I love The Warrior

I really enjoyed The Coward, and while The Warrior has plenty to admire and entertain, it wasn't as good. The quest/journey Kell embarks on this time doesn't feel as important and it's more about the characters and events along the way. There is also the POV of Kell's wife back home in Algany as it faces war against the church, though for reasons (I won't go into them - spoilers) it lacks depth and feels like snippets of events rather than anything more. The ending also came about a little too quickly and less detailed than I'd have liked. However, all-in-all another solid and entertaining story with plenty of interesting ideas and characters, if not all completely likable!

A good conclusion to the Quest for Heroes books
