A stunning, exciting story from acclaimed author Dan Smith - author of the Carnegie Medal-nominated Nisha's War.
Berlin, 1961. Anja and Monika are best friends – they even share a cat called Otto.

When a huge barbed wire fence is built between their apartment blocks, everything changes; their city and family are divided by the Berlin Wall.

Then, Anja discovers that Otto has found a way across. And if he can reach Monika, so can she ...©2023 Dan Smith (P)2023 W.F.Howes Ltd Action & Adventure Historical Historical Fiction Kurgu Literature & Fiction

This was a great story but so so sad. My husband, two daughters, and I listened to this on our long drive home and were completely hooked. I cried terribly at the end at the utter sadness of the two young protagonists being put through this horror and how they each carried the burden into adulthood. Me being German myself but living in the UK, I'm glad my daughters learned about this important part of German history.

The narration was generally really good but the narrator did struggle with a lot of the German words and names.

Great but tough story
