From master storyteller Frederick Forsyth - best-selling author of The Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File - comes this collection of five suspenseful gems.

Justice does not always come easily, and it comes in many guises. On the seedier side of London, a shopkeeper witnesses a brutal beating in “The Veteran” (read by Patrick Macnee). In a better neighborhood, a famous London auction house is scammed in “The Art of the Matter” (also read by Macnee). The additional stories recount a persecution in 16th century Sienna (“The Miracle” - read by Christopher Cazenove), a mid-flight drug smuggling heist (“The Citizen” - also read by Macnee), and the lone survivor of Custer's Last Stand (“Whispering Wind” - read by Bruce Boxleitner). Mixing together the elements of great suspense - revenge, mystery, murder and deception - this collection is Forsyth at his best.

Usual excellent collection you’d expect from the master storyteller, only marred slightly by the almost impenetrable narration by Mcnee. He sounds so old he can barely form the words and his character voices are all ultra slow drawling like something you’d expect in a deathbed confession

Great collection marred by narration

I have 150 audible books in my library and I rate this short story collection as one of the best.

Good listen especially the last short story which was a very clever, inspiring tale. Frederick Forsyth at his best.

very good stories.

Not bad, but a disappointment after his earlier No Comebacks collection of short stories. These I found more predictable, particularly The Veteran which amounted to no more than a lengthier rehash of a story in the earlier collection, meaning the ending offered no surprise at all.
Worth a listen nonetheless, but if you want short stories by Forsyth I would recommend the earlier collection.

Not as good as No Combacks
