Annika Pearce was eighteen years old when vampires murdered her family and dragged her to the Vale—a hidden kingdom where humans donate blood once a month and disappear if they step out of line.

For one year, she's been a blood slave.

For one year, she's dreamed of revenge.

Then she meets a stranger at the village Christmas festival. He calls himself Jake. He's gorgeous, mysterious, and unlike anyone she's ever known.

He's also lying about who he is. Because his name isn't Jake. It's Jacen.

And he's the vampire prince of the Vale.

But Annika has a secret of her own—a witch trapped in a ring who will grant her any wish she desires. And when Jacen invites princesses from vampire kingdoms around the world to compete for his hand in marriage, Annika sees her way inside the palace.

Because if Jacen wants a vampire princess, she'll use her wish to become a vampire princess.

And then she's going to enter the competition, infiltrate the palace from the inside, and bring his kingdom down.

The narrator was pretty good and switched between characters so it was easy to follow.
I loved the story and my favourite part of the story was first meeting the vampire Prince.
I'm ready to hear the next instalment.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, narrated by Patricia Santomasso, and it was an excellent listen. The story is excellent, full of action, adventure, mystery, love and hate, and the narrator really gets the characters so distinctive that you know who's speaking all the time (I don't like her bad witch, it's so creepy!). I highly recommend this book, whether as a DIY read or as an audiobook listen - you won't regret it!
