A powerful source of sickness, death, and sorrow unknowingly created by light rises up to reap chaos among the families of both light and darkness, mortals and immortals.
The domestic bliss of Mesagan and Deucalion is disturbed when a harbinger of this malevolence comes scratching at their front door.
With the rest of their family sailing around Sinuatollion Solange and Clarion-Ananais's peaceful time alone is interrupted when Cody the unicorn comes with news of a mysterious massacre that befell the animals of the Sacranaris Swamp.
Not even the gods are immune, as Unacoria and Nefarion each fall suddenly with weakness and fever.
Mesagan and Deucalion will go to Solange, Clarion, and Ananais. Even Ajourillion will ask to join them, while Quill the qilin, an immortal messenger sent from Susegi, guides them to Enda, the Stone Sage who lives on the other side of the Mane Mountains. Only he possesses that which, when combined with Solange's Alicorn Sword, can stop this insatiable threat to all life before the thirteenth hour sounds.
