From Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the Orange Prize-winning author of Half of a Yellow Sun, come twelve dazzling stories in which she turns her penetrating eye on the ties that bind men and women, parents and children, Nigeria and the West. Searing and profound, suffused with beauty, sorrow and longing, this collection is a resounding confirmation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's prodigious storytelling powers.©2009 Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (P)2009 WF Howes Ltd Anthologies Anthologies & Short Stories Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction Kurgu Kısa Öykü Samimi Düşündürücü Afrika

Audible keeps using this same actress for most books written by an African author/African settings but it's terrible because the accent doesn't work for every book. It's very one-note and monotonous and frankly jarring to hear. West Africans do not sound like South Africans. Almost put me off the book. I gave the performance a two-star rating because sometimes it was bearable and didn't affect the story.

Gripping short stories but terrible performance

This book in itself reflects the ever changing tones of Nigerians in Nigeria and across the globe. I can’t begin to share how many times I’ve read this book and listened to these mini stories which always transports me into a world unlike no other. As a Nigerian woman I’m so grateful to have a writer like Adichie who truly captures the joyfulness and effervescent nature of the Nigerian people! Truly recommend as each character leaves you wanting more!!

just what I expected from Adichie - good storytelling that makes you uncomfortable in some places but the characters are strong enough to find their own footing.

Brilliant collection of short stories by a brilliant writer.
A series of snap shots about modern Nigeria and Nigerians in the diaspora particularly those living in America.
Interesting end to a book of contemporary stories with a story set during colonial times when ancient Nigeria meets invading colonial powers and the cultural and ideological changes in each generation - and the desperate bid by some (not enough) to recapture and correct the inaccuracies of African history pre-colonial times. Where these stories end, is where the chaos, corruption, crises and economic conditions of modern day Nigeria started. The story at the end is significant the start of its decline it’s the end of its former self. It’s true self.
Highly recommend this book. I’ll definitely re-read.
