Nebula Award Winner, 1995

To test his theories of immortality and life after death, Dr. Peter Hobson has created three electronic simulations of his own personality. The first has all knowledge of physical existence edited out, to simulate life after death. The second is without knowledge of aging or death, to simulate immortality. The third is unmodified, a control. Now they are free. One is a killer.

I have listened to several of Robert J Sawyer’s books and never been disappointed, and this one is in the same vein. I like the “whodunnit” aspect and as always Sawyer’s tech always makes his works enjoyable.

Another good creation by Sawyer

While any sci-fi (or fantasy here) is taken with a pinch of salt, I couldn't get over that this was only a blatant attempt at pandering to religious rubbish. Loosely based on technology but with an obvious complete lack of understanding.

I wouldn't completely recommend avoiding, but go in understanding, it's more a religious fanfantasy then anything else.

This book has a really cool concept and was very well executed. It was an interesting mix of existentialist philosophy and techno thriller that had me hooked throughout. Very well deserving of the Nebula Award. Paul Hecht is also an excellent narrator.
