From Dunkirk to North Africa, from D-Day to Hamburg, the 5th Royal Tank Regiment were in the frontline. Few regiments had longer wars or saw more action than the 'Filthy Fifth'.

In this remarkable narrative history, acclaimed author Mark Urban tells the story of World War II through the eyes of this brave regiment. In many ways, the fighting Fifth's journey reflects Britain - early losses turned to eventual victory through ingenuity, daring and exceptional bravery. Fighting against overwhelming odds, they beat back the infamous German Panzer Divisions and paved the way for an Allied resurgence.

Drawing on interviews, archives and new sources, The Tank War is a moving personal story which brings a fresh perspective on the crucial role of tanks in the Allied victory.

Mark is a fantastic author and a even better narrator. His range of accents are excellent and this makes the already amazing stories even better.

Brilliant author and narrator

Honestly wish this story would be told
Like BoB. Not as flared as rogue hero’s but it needs told visually.

The book is none fiction and as such can highlight and follow individuals through various campaigns. Heart wrenching at times, it does throw to the fore the sadness and loss of war on a very personal level. A really compelling and fascinating listen for someone who knew very little about the Tankies war. Highly recommended listen.
