One of the most brilliant and chilling thrillers of modern times ... a thrill-a-minute ghost train ride of a novel, filled with astonishingly vivid characters. Reading it is like holding on to a live electric wire. You may want to put it down, but you find that you can't

My advice would be to ignore comments about the narrator - his voice & tone are perfect for the book, in my opinion - and let the story take you away to the Territories.
I read the paperback something like 20 years ago, and this was a great way to re-read this epic tale.
Audible: please give us Black House!

I love this book, I read it as a teenager and wanted to listen to it this time and was really looking forward to it. But while the story starts out just as great as I remember, I'm afraid I had to switch off at the end of the second chapter because I simply cannot listen to the narrator anymore. He reads too fast, there are no pauses, you cannot distinguished spoken word from thought, he whispers and draws out the last word of every sentence and he makes it sound as though he just wants to get the job done and pick up his paycheck.

I only have myself to blame I suppose as I did listen to the sample and I had read comments criticisimg the narration, but I thought that my love of the story would allow me to get over that. But no, I've had to switch off and start another book.

I'm very disappointed.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE ALL TIME BOOKS RUINED

Narrator could have been better. The first few chapters, I was tempted to ditch it. But it’s a book I love and wanted to hear it while out walking the dog. I enjoyed it mostly, but felt enraged as a single word with two syllables could be spoken like it had four. The narrator’s voice is a presenting voice - not a storyteller. That said, his accents were good and the story is so flipping brilliant, you have to just accept crap narration and enjoy the story.

Annoyingly dramatic narrator

I thought the book its self is excellent however the narrator took some getting used to. His voices were distracting to the story

Excellent story
