The nomad clan of Sawney Rath could feel their fortunes changing, much for the better. The Mighty One, the next great leader, has been born within the walls of Redwall Abbey and, at any cost, Sawney Rath is determined to harness the power of this magnificent beast—the deadly Taggerung!

A baby otter is kidnapped from Redwall by Sawney's ruthless band of villains called the Juska. They believe he is a Taggerung—a legendary animal said to have supernatural fighting skills. The young otter is raised by the leader Sawney Rath as his own son and trained to be a ruthless killer but the Redwall spirit cuts deep and as the Taggerung reaches adolescence he begins to dream of another life.

I had listened to many of the Redwall books and completed the long patrol. i wanted to find out what happened to Cregga and had to skip Marlfox as it's not on audible, so went for this book. i found the story very engaging, the story of Tag, aka Deyna, with his spirit still of Redwall, even though he knew nothing of it, plus the trouble at redwall, the grief felt by Filorn and Mehra expertly handled by badger mum Cregga, and how Cregga gets Mehra to stay physically close to her. I would recommend this book to anyone. it's listed as a children's book, but I’m 42 and still enjoyed it. the characters came to life, and some bits made me laugh out loud and weep. For a good laugh I recommend Cregga's questioning of Boorab the hare over the potato and leek turnover, and also Cregga’s wordplay at Mehra’s hastily arranged talent contest. there are sad parts too, which are handled very well indeed. Brian Jacques writing is amazing. this is a book which had me laughing and weeping in equal measure.
I like the use of alternative voice actors for the characters other than just the narrators too. Filorn singing about paws is very emotional, and I bet any listener won’t forget Cregga’s voice in a hurry, nor that of Boorab the hare, or badger lord Russano the wise, or Trey, the mouse dibbon

fantastic book

The Taggerung is an amazing book. I have read and listened to all 22 of the Redwall series. They are all full of humour, grief, action and great food (wot wot!) Although it was a shame not to hear as much music, it’s still a great listen.

Redwaaaaallllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this audio book after reading the book as a child, good cast, the author and narrator has a great voice, I wasn't too sure at first, being a Londoner I thought his scouse accent wasn't the best for narrating at first, I was definitely wrong though, it just takes a few minutes to get used to his accent then he sounds great. If you like the redwall series give this a listen, not a bad book to start on either though as you don't have to have read the series chronologically, I didn't actually, but I would start off with the legend of Luke, or Mossflower if new to redwall books.

Great listen
