Set in New York's exclusive Hamptons seaside resort, The Summer Without You is a gorgeously escapist listen from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Rome Affair, Karen Swan.

'Pure escapism' – Marie Clare

Rowena Tipton isn't looking for a new life, just a new adventure, something to while away the months as her long-term boyfriend presses pause on their relationship before they become engaged. But when a chance encounter at a New York wedding leads to an audition for a coveted houseshare in The Hamptons – Manhattan's elite beach scene – suddenly a new life is exactly what she's got.

Stretching before her is a summer with three eclectic housemates, long days on white sandy beaches and parties on gilded tennis courts. But high rewards bring high stakes, and Rowena soon finds herself caught in the crossfire of a vicious intimidation campaign.

Alone for the first time in her adult life, Rowena has no-one to turn to but a stranger – who is everything she doesn't want, but possibly everything she needs.

I enjoyed this book and the Narrator was perfect for it. I thought there would be a bit more romance to be honest. The author spent time on the initial attraction of Ro and Ted but it didn’t really get beyond that and I felt the ending was really flat, like the author wanted it finished. Don’t get me wrong it was detailed, well written and narrated and I couldn’t put it down but the ending was flat.

Karen swan is my favourite writer, that’s saying something. I wish in some of her stories she’d not conclude everything in the last 2 pages, much more satisfying when there’s a ‘ 6 months later’ or similar, or a follow up book👍❤️

The first Karen Swan book I have listened to and it will not be the last! Twists and turns and beautifully narrated. It's always good to discover a new writer and narrator.
