Be careful what you wish for. On the surface, Callie Harwell has it all. Newly married to James, she finally gets the family she has longed for and becomes a mother to his two sons. So why is she arrested for murder?

Things are not as Callie hoped they would be and she struggles to be accepted as part of James' family, and to keep hidden the secrets that could destroy her future.

As her life spirals out of control, setting in motion a chain of events with devastating consequences, Callie is forced to question how well we ever really know ourselves.

I didn't like the character , she made stupid mistakes in her life that seemed implausible. I thought the book just rambled on with not too much storyline . On a plus , the narrator was good .

A big long winded .

This is my favourite book in a long time. The term 'psychological thriller' is bandied about so loosely but this book is exactly that. It takes us into the mind and life of the main protagonist in such an amazing level of detail but without in any way being boring. The use of the first person narrative is excellent, as is the way in which we hear the story unfolding as Callie is being interviewed by police (going from past - the story itself - to present - the police interview). I also loved that is a 'whodunnit' in reverse. We know whodunnit - Callie has confessed - but the mystery is around who becomes the victim and there are so many potential candidates to choose from! To say anymore though would spoil things!

So finally on the narration, for me generally I prefer to read. I listen to audiobooks but more as a back up for when I am unable to sit down and read, e.g. commuting, household chores etc... (whispersynch is so good for this). The narration here is so good though, it is so well read that even when I had the option of reading I preferred to listen instead.

I really recommend this book! I am already looking forward to finding out more about the author

I was hooked

I enjoyed listening to this book which is the first one I’ve purchased by Kathryn Croft. I love Lisa Coleman’s narration as she brings each character to life. I’ll
Definitely purchase another book by this author 👏
