Eli Monpress is talented. He's charming. And he's a thief.
But not just any thief. He’s the greatest thief of the age - and he’s also a wizard. And with the help of his partners - a swordsman with the most powerful magic sword in the world but no magical ability of his own, and a demonseed who can step through shadows and punch through walls - he’s going to put his plan into effect.
The first step is to increase the size of the bounty on his head, so he’ll need to steal some big things. But he’ll start small. He’ll just steal something that no one will miss - at least for a while.
Something like a king.

Would you listen to The Spirit Thief again? Why?
No, the only thing that kept me going with this book was wanting to find out how it ended. What other book might you compare The Spirit Thief to, and why?
I've not listened to anything like this for a while. It seems like it's aimed at a younger audience.Would you be willing to try another one of Luke Daniels’s performances?
No, I will be avoiding his narration. There only seemed to be 3 different voices that he used for different characters (there were more than 3 characters in the book). There was the normal voice, the "standing so far away from the microphone that I couldn't hear him" voice and the big monstrous creature voice created by cupping his hands over his mouth. If the rest of the series was voiced by someone else, I might finish the series one day but sadly that will not happen.
Any additional comments?
My opinion may have been spoilt by listening to the spectacular Lies of Locke Lamora just before this which is a pretty good book with the greatest voice acting I've ever heard.Story was ok, but the narration really wasn't good

a flawless start to an incredible series with a coherent magical system, complex characters driven by clear and meaningful objectives and motivations, and a ensemble of protagonists you're certain to grow fond of. Few series have such a fully developed vanguard novel.
Essential reading if you've never had the pleasure of delving into spirit based magical systems. Rachel Aaron is one of the few female authours that comprehends duty and morality, which greatly enhances the dramatic tension.
Truly Magical
