Only two people know Lamont Cranston's secret identity as the Shadow, a vigilante of justice: his greatest love, Margo Lane, and his fiercest enemy, Shiwan Khan. Then Khan ambushes the couple, who find the slimmest chance of survival . . . in the uncertain future.

A century and a half later, Lamont awakens in a world both unknown and strangely familiar. The first person he meets is Maddy Gomes, a teenager with her own mysterious secrets, including a more than passing awareness of the legend of the Shadow.

Most disturbing, Khan's power continues to be felt over New York and its people. No one in this new world understands the dangers of stopping him better than Lamont Cranston. He also knows he's the only one who stands a chance. Lamont must prove that the Shadow is more than just a legend.

Bit schlocky, but enjoyable shlock. Enjoyed listening when not playing Batman or watching Batman: The Animated Series. Some might say this is OTT. I say these are words, because this is called speaking.

I've been listening to this on and off over a few months. It's a nice, easy listen. Chapters are short and can take plenty of breaks.
As for the story, be warned that this is not the Shadow from the pulps. They do mention the pulps, but as a fictional representation of the character in this book. they even mentioned batman, which made me chuckle a bit, even though it was ridiculous.
However, they've taken some liberties with the character, which i felt may not stand well with some fans.
However, i stuck with it, and i felt it came to a satisfying conclusion. i will probably look forward to the next book.
As for the narration, they had done a really good job with this.

Oh dear! Was looking forward to this one as a massive fan of The Shadow pulp character - this was an absolute travesty! They could not have done a better job of destroying a little remembered but much loved character if they had tried. If you have any affection for the Shadow, or even if you just like books that don't read as though they were written by a barely literate 12 year old, please avoid this at all costs!
