In 1782, a ghost ship ran aground in a secluded cove in Cornwall. To this day, no one knows what became of the Aurora’s crew or the shadowy woman rumored to be onboard.

In 2021, when Kyle inherits his aunt’s historic house in Cornwall, all Nicole anticipates is a few idyllic days in a beautiful setting—until she discovers that not only is the house connected to the centuries-old legend of the Aurora and the woman at the center of the mystery, but it also hides its own dark past.

As Kyle and Nicole delve deeper into the unexplained disappearance of the crew, they unearth secrets both old and new, along with truths that could alter the shape of their own family in ways they never expected.

Irina Shapiro writes great stories. But both her narrators are unbearable. I had to stop listening sorry.

Along comes a narrator so bad it sends your blood pressure soaring. I'm being serious. I cannot for the life of me understand how this person was chosen to narrate this book. I tried my best to press on but in the end I withdrew defeated and bewildered. I don't know if the author had any say in the choosing of the reader but, if so, she seriously needs to think again because no matter how good her stories are, this reader is the kiss of death. I gather she is an American and so some leeway can be given regarding the accent but not to the extent where she bestows the same "English" upper crust accent on all the characters from peasant to king as it were. Add to this the ridiculous and weird pronouciation of perfectly normal words e.g. pahrents (parents), airah (era), cahrar (carer), stors (stairs) - I could go on but I lost the will to live. With 5 hours 42m left of listening time, I have bowed out. This is torture not pleasure. My apologies to the author. The book sounded very promising but I've checked and I see the same narrator is used for more your books. Therefore, I will never know just how good you are - and I suspect you are good, if only I had been able to immerse myself in the story instead of finding my frustration building by the second and the blood pounding in my ears. I'm so glad I didn't waste a credit on it. That's the only positive I can take away from this memorable for all the wrong reasons experience. The stars I have given are purely for the author. For the reader, please stick to voicing American novels and leave all others alone.

Just When You Think It Can't Get Any Worse . . .

This is the 3rd in the series and I love it. I have listened to them back to back and loved the characters. A real good listen!

Great storyline

Loved the storyline and continuation, for a moment I thought a character from another series of the author’s books was going appear but sadly not!

The narrator! Awful. I’m sorry, but if you’re going to narrate a book either an English accent, it is pure laziness not to do your research. The publishers need to do better proof listening too.

I think Shapiro’s books get better, shame about the narrator

Good story spoilt by American trying (and failing) to pronounce English words. If you can get over that then the story is good.

Poor pronunciations of British words.
