Meet thirteen-year-old Agatha Oddly – a bold, determined heroine, and the star of a stylish new detective series.

Agatha Oddlow has been a detective for as long as she can remember – she’s just been waiting for her first big case. And nothing gets bigger than saving the City of London from some strange goings-on.

With a scholarship to the prestigious St Regis School, a cottage in the middle of Hyde Park, a room full of beloved sleuthing novels, and a secret key that gives her access to a whole hidden side of London, Agatha is perfectly poised to solve the mystery of what’s going on. But just who can she trust when no one is quite who they seem…

Overall I enjoyed this novel but the title and front cover are quite misleading as the look good for an quite advanced 7-10 year old but I would recommend this book for ages 10-13 as it contains some disturbing themes and is quite a hard storyline to follow. Despite this I really enjoyed this literature as is was exiting and griping with lovely language that captures the imagination of the reader beautifully. The major disappointment of this audio book is the narration, when she is doing the voices of specific characters, especially “mr Maxwell” it is good but when it is just simple story telling narration she sound bored and lame. It is refreshing to have a school girl hero who isn’t glamorous or or indeed so unpopular it’s uncomfortable to read/listen to, as the main protagonist has a few close friends and develops a few new ones in the course of the storyline.
A beautifully written novel with slightly disappointing narration but on the whole a brilliant, engaging book for children age 10-13.
