A timeless classic on “Hell’s latest novelties and Heaven’s unanswerable answer”

A masterpiece of satire, this classic work has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to “Our Father Below.”

At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging account of temptation—and triumph over it—ever written, offering insights on good vs. evil, repentance, grace, and more.

“If wit and wisdom, style and scholarship are requisites to passage through the pearly gates, Mr. Lewis will be among the angels.”

(New Yorker)

“The best audio ever spoken of the funniest defense of Christianity ever written.”

(AudioFile)

“Each letter is a masterpiece of reverse theology…If you’ve never read Lewis, The Screwtape Letters is a great place to start. And if you know Lewis, but haven’t read this, you’ve missed one of his core writings.”

(Amazon.com, editorial review)

“Lewis’ satire is a Christian classic…[His] take on human nature is as on-target as it was when the letters were first published in 1941.”

Highly recommend. A book that will transform how you think. Lewis' captures a world we don't know in a way that makes it real and causes you to reflect on cynical opinions.

I've listened to this before, about 5/6 years ago. At that time I was just discovering C S Lewis and found this very amusing. I re listened to it today and, because my personal circumstances have changed since I first heard it, I now heard it as a cautionary tale, as clues to some of my thinking or behaviour! It truly opened my eyes to the possible adverse influences in my life!

So, if this is your first venture into C S Lewis, or the first time buying this in audiobook - this is a great listen. Either as a lighthearted piece, or as a 'How not to be Screwtaped' both are invaluable - Enjoy.

I'm grateful for Lewis's clear depictions of various strategies used by Satan's minions.

Well done that man.

Perhaps someone can continue the letters to bring us up to date.

I throughly enjoyed this book. The satire is clever, consistent and funny from the first page to the last. It depicts, in a likely manner, if such thing is possible, the thinking of a devil. C.S.Lewis is a Christian but the book can be enjoyed by anyone.

The content, tone and pacing is superb. Eighty years old but still so relevant for today’s world.
