When Lady Charlton is forced into becoming London's most reluctant matchmaker, sparks fly and romance ensues - from the nationally best-selling author of Marry in Scarlet.

Alice, Lady Charlton, is finally free of her dominating husband, but on the verge of her new life, she is trapped when a blackmailer threatens to publish letters that could ruin her. To protect the secrets of her past Alice must find a lord for his daughter, Lucy, to marry.

Alice reluctantly agrees to find the girl a noble husband, but when Lucy arrives, she's difficult and uncooperative and has no interest in her father's scheme. A lord, she says, will only look down his nose at her - and she's having none of that!

Desperate to retrieve the letters, Alice enlists the aid of her handsome young nephew, Gerald, who in turn seeks the help of his former commanding officer, James, Lord Tarrant. James is soon beguiled by the marriage-averse widow and sets out to change her mind. And each time they meet, Gerald and Lucy strike sparks off each other.

To find happiness, Alice and Lucy will have to be brave and trust in each other and the men who are attempting to win their hearts.

I lover this book, so much I've listened to it twice. I loved how the 2 women's stories wound around and into each other. Definitely worth yiur time :)

I immensely enjoyed this book and Rosalyn Landor kind of narration. My previous book by this author was enjoyable but occasionally felt a bit unrealistic and childish. This on the other hand was mature and clever writing, witty and with a very easy flow. Narrator was amazing, definitely the same style and level as Rosalyn Landor.

Lovely writing with fantastic narration

A very sweet book!

The narrator wasn't bad, but as it was multiple main characters, someone with a wider range of voices, accents, etc... would've been better! She quite often used the same voice when characters were in conversation & it was hard to know who was meant to be talking... also, she gave up Alice's "voice" halfway through, which I am glad of as she made her sound geriatric, when she was only meant to be 38.

I really liked that it was 2 love stories in one, as usually you get snippets of other couples & need to purchase several books in a series to know the story of the other couple that intrigued you... this was fantastic as it saved on that.

I was surprised to see that it was loosely linked to the Chance sisters... well Daisy at least!

I enjoyed both stories, but I gotta say I did prefer James out of everybody & especially his & Alice's love story.

James was dreamy... supportive & the love he had for his daughters was heart melting!

For me, Alice & Gerald's romance wasn't as well flushed out as their counterparts... it went from "I can't stand you, to I love you" in the blink of an eye.

The sister-in-law was vile & I think she deserved more of a comeuppance... also, I did wish there was a scene of Gerald standing up to his vile mother!

All in all, a good book which would've been better had they used a different narrator or even 2 narrators to help differentiate between the characters more easily!

I couldn't imagine a more delicious man than James Tarrant. The heroines and heroes are likeable but not insipid. I really enjoyed listening.
