There is no dowry left for Elisabeth Knolly. She is destined for a nunnery, for eternal chastity – which is a good thing – because she doesn’t want to do that with anyone.

Elisa, not knowing where to turn, finds sanctuary in one of London’s infamous stews.

Eliza, the protagonist, goes through more than anyone ever should have to, but her story is beautiful and redemptive. The story is wonderfully researched and told in a sensitive, insightful way. Also, I love when stories are read by the author, and she does an incredible job. I can’t wait to read more from Amie McNee.

It's my 2nd book by Aimee, I like she narrates her books, but some of the pronunciation was slightly frustrating, and sounded rushed. It was a bit of an abrupt end, but I like Elisa's determination and bravery, although Sam taking 2 years to "come across her", not sure about that. The most refreshing part was the honesty of the bawd, keeping the purse etc. I hated Elisa's family, the hypocrisy, that the black sheep was literally the most honest family member. Worth a read.
