The searing, postapocalyptic novel destined to become Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece. A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food-and each other. The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, "each the other's world entire," are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation.©2006 Cormac McCarthy (P)2006 Recorded Books Coming of Age Genre Fiction Kurgu Literary Fiction Science Fiction Fantastik Distopya Duygusal olarak çekici Esprili Korkutucu Samimi Düşündürücü

Wow. I thought I was feeling down before starting this book. By the end I want to curl up into the foetus position in bed and cry.
The story is good and it's narrated really well but the events and what happens throughout just make you want to weep.

Want to be utterly depressed? Read this book.

What made the experience of listening to The Road the most enjoyable?

The story painted a picture of a future so bleak it defines the apocalypse genre... The reader did a great job defining the characters and emotions.

What did you like best about this story?

Great story, short running time and engaging characters.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, but I will be looking at his other books

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much!

So Desolate, So Miserable, But So Good!

The Road is probably the most emotional book I’ve read. It’s just so bleak and sorrowful but has a thread of hope running though it. As post apocalyptic stories go they don’t get much better than this. No punches pulled, no silly cliches, just an ailing man and his son trying to make their way. Sometimes the simplest stories are the best.

Essential. One of the best.

Enjoyed, but the encounters in the book got a little same same. I cried, so that's always a good indicator of an author who has really pulled me into the book and characters. would recommend.

I cried....

this is a great book, its very hard as a dad to a young boy but it makes me want to hold him close and tell him I love him. the narrator does an amazing job here. its a short listen and in my opinion worth it...

Grim, gripping & heartbreaking
