Modern dating can be such a killer…
True-crime enthusiast, Dr. Kylie Saunders is two years into an arduous medical training program in New York City, which leaves her with little time for romance. Until she meets Dr. Blake Weathers. A fellow resident with an intense passion for neurosurgery, devilishly good looks and irresistible charm, Blake is completely intoxicating. Yet Kylie can't shake the unsettling feeling that the enigmatic surgeon is hiding something.
After sending Kylie mixed messages following several promising dates, she reluctantly calls things off with Blake and focuses on meeting someone through the Connections app. But when a friend and colleague is brutally murdered, and Kylie discovers a secret that links Blake to the crime, her reservations about him intensify.
As she delves further into the mystery surrounding the murder, while attempting to turn her love life around, Kylie soon learns that the Manhattan dating scene is far deadlier than she could have imagined. When the police suspect the killer used Connections to lure the victim, Kylie's search for answers reveals a terrifying truth: that they're about to take a swipe at her next…

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is my first read by this author and I was excited to see that this is also the first book in The Resident Thriller series. I loved the front cover image with the dark and ominous characters and the blood splatter - I know, maybe I shouldn't be, but this instantly drew me in and made me want to see what this story was. The setting of the hospital added to the pressure and tension of the read and the fact that both our main characters are doctors made this feel more high stakes. The irony of those who save lives for a living, being implicated in the murders that happen, was not lost on us. I really felt for Kylie and her struggles to find time for a personal life, but this was such a relatable read and I enjoyed seeing the other side of the medical profession and the hard work and long hours that it entails. But this does make relationships really difficult for many reasons and it made sense for them to gravitate to each other. Blake definitely gave me bad vibes and I was pretty sure I knew where this was going, but I was completely hooked from the start and found myself racing through the short chapters, desperate to find out what was really happening.
I found myself switching between feeling sorry for Blake - once we learned more about his backstory - and back to suspecting him - just not trusting myself throughout.
This definitely didn't go where I expected and I loved the different twists and turns in regards to the investigation.
I also really liked that we followed the story through multi pov chapters which allowed us to really get to know each of the characters fully. The writing was gripping and I was shocked to discover this was a debut novel. I flew through this so fast - the narrators did such a great job portraying the characters and their personalities, keeping me engaged and invested in the outcome.
I can't wait to see where the story goes in book 2.....
exciting read with some good twists

I listened to the audio version, and really enjoyed it. The voices were clear and full of emotion. It was read at a good pace which really kept you engaged. I liked the multiple points of view, and that they were read by different people, so it was clear whose view you were currently hearing about.
The story itself also has a good pace, with great character introductions and the scene well set. There’s great suspicion placed on different characters and you just don’t know who to trust!
I liked how the story developed, giving you snippets of different characters, letting you build your own ideas and suspects, before leading you in different directions.
All in all this is one that will keep you listening, distracting you from whatever else you should be doing! I look forward to more from this author.
