Audible UK's Debut of the Year 2019

Berlin, 1989. As the wall between East and West falls, Miriam Winter cares for her dying father, Henryk. When he cries out for someone named Frieda - and Miriam discovers an Auschwitz tattoo hidden under his watch strap - Henryk’s secret history begins to unravel.

Searching for more clues of her father’s past, Miriam finds an inmate uniform from the Ravensbrück women’s camp concealed among her mother’s things. Within its seams are dozens of letters to Henryk written by Frieda. The letters reveal the disturbing truth about the ‘Rabbit Girls’, young women experimented on at the camp. And amid their tales of sacrifice and endurance, Miriam pieces together a love story that has been hidden away in Henryk’s heart for almost 50 years.

Inspired by these extraordinary women, Miriam strives to break through the walls she has built around herself. Because even in the darkest of times, hope can survive.

Dinleyicilerimize Not

Thoroughly enjoyed this extremely well written book. It is a harrowing tale of the desperation of living in Nazi Germany.

As both my parents lived through those dark days and in Berlin as children , the book resonated with me and their recollection of the 3rd reich. Interesting and haunting in equall measure!

I loved the book, finished it in one sitting ! Couldn't put it down. Narrative was fantastic. Feel a little for the wife you don't find out how much she would do for her husband until the end. Loved the different stories interwoven. Books on this subject can be soo difficult to read but it has a strong undercurrent of kindness. Would recommend 👌

This book is beautifully written. The writer has huge empathy for many forms of suffering and gets into the heart of what it felt like to be in a concentration camp and also suffer from years of abuse. This makes it very hard to listen to at times with a physicality that I haven't had with any other audio book. If you can cope with it I would encourage you to stick with it though as it is extremely powerful stuff and very uplifting in places. There are mystery elements as well which were very satisfying. I will certainly be looking out for her new book. Amazing new talent.
