When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a (sort-of) regular teenager.

With these excerpts from her handwritten notebooks, The Princess Diarist is Fisher’s intimate and revealing recollection of what happened on one of the most famous film sets of all time—and what developed behind the scenes. And today, as she reprises her most iconic role for the latest Star Wars trilogy, Fisher also ponders the joys and insanity of celebrity, and the absurdity of a life spawned by Hollywood royalty, only to be surpassed by her own outer-space royalty. Laugh-out-loud hilarious and endlessly quotable, The Princess Diarist brims with the candour and introspection of a diary while offering shrewd insight into the type of stardom that few will ever experience.

Smart and funny...the pages crackle with one-liners

It’s an eye-opener for fans, but it also shows a gifted writer even at a young age. There was a lot going on between Princess Leia’s hair buns.
An unflinching, sometimes painful, sometimes hilarious look inside the mind of a 19-year-old … It’s invasive, juicy, sad, nostalgic and gripping all at once. It’s as if you’ve knocked the lock off of your cooler older sister’s journal and discovered she’s been sleeping with the hottest boy in school this whole time.
Fisher offers a thoughtful, sardonic meditation on the price of fame, cost-of-living adjustments included. (J.D. Biersdorfer)
[The Princess Diarist] is a radical truth bomb (Julia Felsenthal)
Carrie Fisher was so real it was dangerous…. My God, girls, we owe her a lot. (Sharon Horgan)
She didn't need The Force. She was a force of nature, of loyalty and of friendship. (Steven Spielberg)

Carrie Fisher's onset Star Wars diaries don't really constitute a very big part of this book. And although touted as the big draw don't really offer anymore than any other teenage diary - angst ridden and moody as they are. And the revelation of an affair with Harrison Ford seems to be more about recollecting youth across a passage of time. She could be talking about anything... It just happened to be an affair. Putting the diaries and the affair to one side and the book's real heart is revealed.. A 60 year old trying to remember her life at 19 and on the cusp of something she never could have forseen. And also how she has dealt with Star Wars, the fame and the expectations that come with it. This is where the book shines. And the narration is perfect.... Like a wise best friend sat opposite you making you laugh and listen. Rest in peace Carrie Fisher.

This was a wonderful insight in to Carrie's earlier life and what Star Wars has done for her.

I honestly felt like I was sat with a friend for the last 4 hours.. so brilliant.

interesting but found it a bit rambling and very cynical for the fans. other than the Ford affair nothing enlightening but then again I haven't read wishful drinking so might give that a go

was this a lapdance

Really laugh out loud funny at times. Bought all her books of the back of this. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the daughter's reading. In comparison to Carrie's it was a bit rushed and soulless.

Very funny

Quirky and interesting. Nice to listen to in the background. Carrie is so candid in her recollection.
