The return of DS Royston Chase and DC Claire Laney.

The frozen corpse of a female hiker discovered on snow-covered downs presents DS Royston Chase, DC Claire Laney, and Trainee DC Alison May with a fresh murder case to investigate.

The more the body thaws the more it reveals, and as the investigation gathers momentum hopes are dashed of an early and successful outcome. It soon becomes clear that the victim and her killer were not the only ones on the hillside when the murder occurred, and the police are desperate to locate everybody who was.

But when the operation is interrupted by a series of related abductions, with all witnesses swiftly falling under suspicion, Chase realises that their case is far more complex than any of them could ever have imagined...©2023 Tony J. The story was a bit obvious, a bit drawn out and a bit ridiculous but still interesting enough to enjoy.

The characters are developing nicely and are even more likeable, I quite like the little fantasy world where the police seem to get along with each other and are all genuine nice guys.

I will keep an eye out for the next in the series just for the chase and Lainey

not as good as the first book but still a good listen

DS Royston Chase and his partners DC Claire Laney and Alison May must find the killer of a girl murdered while hiking alone in the middle of winter. This time the team of three are joined by the central team stationed close to Marlborough College where two of the suspects are scholars.

An excellent storyline set in beautiful countryside with a team working. together to solve the crime.

A FAST PACED PLOT

Having listened to books 1 and 2, my preference is the narrator of book 1

Choice of the Narrator

So once I finished the first book I had to go straight onto the second (that is how audible plus works isn't it - first book free then you buy the series as you are addicted.

I was concerned with the change in the narration who I had previously listened to and liked but I had really got invested in the previous character development. The first ten minutes or so didnt work but then something clicked. Like with the previous one I just had to keep listening which I did until the end. It was so good.

This was such a unique premise for a police procedural - nobody came out of this well in terms of the victims.
It was interesting to see the team work with the different police groups. I liked how Alison's character was more developed.
I just need another book in this series as the two characters are so good and bounce of each other so well.

Such an addictive series

I really loved the first one and thought the original narrator was brilliant and helped with the suspense and unfolding of the story, unfortunately as much as I like andy Cresswell I find him wrong for this book and feel it lacks something due to his style and performance.

nothing really
