THE ICONIC BESTSELLING NOVEL, WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE, AND NOW AMAZON TV SERIES STARRING TONI COLLETTE AND AULI'I CRAVALHO

*Narrated by The Power TV stars Ria Zmitrowicz, Toheeb Jimoh and Archie Rush*

'She throws her head back and pushes her chest forward and lets go a huge blast right into the centre of his body. The rivulets and streams of red scarring run across his chest and up around his throat. She'd put her hand on his heart and stopped him dead.'

Suddenly - tomorrow or the day after - girls find that with a flick of their fingers, they can inflict agonizing pain and even death. With this single twist, the four lives at the heart of Naomi Alderman's extraordinary, visceral novel are utterly transformed, and we look at the world in an entirely new light.

What if the power to hurt were in women's hands?

The narrator for Allie isn’t my favourite; the accent is all over the place and half the words are slurred or incorrectly pronounced whether an English or American accent. Aside from that, this novel is very interesting, not exactly what it was advertised to be as it’s more a commentary on social power tied with religion and politics rather than a fantasy type novel where women suddenly have the power because that’s not what happens here! I think some of the characters verge on stereotypical and some plot points predicable but overall entertaining enough to listen all the way through

The commentary on the connection between power religion and politics is very insightful

This book has challenged and opened my eyes so much to the narrative of who should have the power and who is weak and who is strong.
The epilogue alone is mind shattering. I love Naomis writing and much she unveils the deepest darkest depths of human desire and vialness. My hope is that other readers will read it as a call to end the incessant striving for power over others.

Mindblowing narrative of power and the harm of it
