Private Investigator Charlie Parker returns in this heart-pounding thriller, with Angel and Louis taking centre stage, following from events in A BOOK OF BONES, from the internationally bestselling author of the acclaimed Charlie Parker novels.

In Amsterdam, three people are butchered in a canal house, their remains arranged around the crucified form of their patriarch, De Jaager: fixer, go-between, and confidante of the assassin named Louis. The men responsible for the murders are Serbian war criminals. They believe they can escape retribution by retreating to their homeland.
They are wrong.

For Louis has come to Europe to hunt them down: five killers to be found and punished before they can vanish into the east.
There is only one problem.
The sixth.

...but apparently I can! I think is one of the best of the Charlie Parker series, and even though Parker makes few appearances, the depth of his attachment to Angel and Louis shines through with absolute clarity. It makes such a glorious change to read - or listen to! - a book where make friendship is so clearly apparent without the writing feeling laboured in any way.

This book was an absolute joy and of course that's in no small part due to my absolute devotion to Louis and his wicked sharp tongue. Bravo, Mr Connolly!

I didn't think I could love Louis more...

I've read all Charlie Parker books. The last chapter ruined this book though. Very rushed as if John Connolly got fed up with writing.

Well researched.

I’m not sure why the author doesn’t just give Louie and Angel their own spin off set of books. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it I did just lost a star for the unnecessary commentary on the former Yugoslavia.

Not a Charlie Parker novel

I have read every book in this series and loved them all. Even with just a passing cameo role of Parker this time around, the author has still captured the magic with Angel and Louis. Great narration. When is the next book out !

Another great book

One of my favourite authors read by arguably one of the best performers - absolutely brilliant!!!

Excellent author, even better narrator!
