A dead dame. A psychotic mobster. Alan and Lorraine Priest seek clues to a murder among Prohibition gangsters, corrupt police, and Broadway stars.

Manhattan, 1928. When Alan Priest, reporter for the New York World, discovers a body at the demolition site for the new Chrysler Building, both his and his wife Lorraine's lives are thrown into turmoil. Can they navigate the worlds of vicious mobsters, corrupt police, and Broadway stars to find the killer?

The Missing Floor is full of plot twists and cliffhangers that make this book impossible to stop listening to. Vivid, endearing and memorable characters, along with a rich mastery of history make it impossible to tell which secondary characters are fictional and who actually walked the streets of Manhattan. Completely immersive! Listeners will be hooked!

After devouring the first book, I was nervous this wouldn’t live up to the hype , boy was I wrong! Ortiz somehow made the mystery even more twisted this time around. I found myself second guessing every character, which never happens to me. Sutherland’s narration continues to be stellar; his voice has become the soundtrack to my evening dog walks. The pacing kept me glued during my entire road trip last weekend. Seven hours flew by like nothing. This series has officially become my new obsession!

I didn’t think the sequel could top the first, but this one had me hooked from the start. I listened during my workouts and kept adding extra time just to hear what happened next. The mix of gangsters, shady cops, and Broadway types made it feel alive and gritty in all the right ways. The dynamic between the two leads felt even sharper this time around. If you’re into mysteries with edge and energy, this one totally delivers.

I popped this on during a weekend trip, thinking I’d just kill some time ended up fully hooked. The story dives right in, and it’s got this cool blend of danger, old New York grit, and sharp dialogue. I really liked how the characters handled the chaos felt real, not overdone. Plus, the 1920s setting didn’t feel like a history lesson ,it just worked. Kept me guessing, kept me locked in. If you dig mystery with tension that actually builds, this one delivers.

I listened to this during a long layover and got pulled in way quicker than expected. The whole situation with the floor that shouldn’t exist had me curious right away, and I kept trying to figure things out before the characters did. It reminded me of late nights wandering around my old office building, checking doors I probably shouldn’t have. The pacing kept me alert, and I never felt bored. It turned an otherwise dull afternoon into something genuinely fun.
