Soon to be a major motion picture, directed by Greta Gerwig, releasing in IMAX and globally in theatres February 12, 2027.
Abridged edition. The first in the series of the classic fantasy tales – The Chronicles of Narnia. Read by the unforgettable Sir Michael Hordern.
“Congratulate me, my dear boy,” said Uncle Andrew, rubbing his hands. “My experiment has succeeded. The little girl’s gone – vanished – right out of this world.”
After Uncle Andrew’s horrible trick, Digory has no choice but to travel over to the Other World in search of poor vanished Polly. Little does he realise that his uncle has unwittingly opened up the doorway to Narnia, a truly magical world, and that their adventures have only just begun…

When I found that they were available on audible I was both pleased and a little anxious. Worried that if I were to listen to the series again as an adult it might not live up to my childhood memories.
Last week I took the plunge and revisited the first in the series, The Magician's Nephew.
I'm happy to say that this series more than lives up to the rose-tinted memories of yesteryear!
It's not just the narration or the story either, although both are brilliant.
The use of instruments such as lutes and flutes to underscore some of the more poignant moments of the stories is a stroke of genius.
Whether music is being used to depict an entire battle or simply for one moment to give us a greater insight into a character's emotional journey it never out stays it's welcome as always adds something extra to the overall experience.
This is probably what most would call a book for younger readers but I defy any one of any age to give this a listen and not be completely charmed by it.
Give this first book a go and you'll understand why I spent a good portion of my time as a child trying to engage the local farm life in conversation and hunting for witches in the back of my mother's wardrobe.
By the Lion! What a Book!
