Eli's trip to London with his uncle Harry quickly turns homicidal when the older magician finds himself accused of murder. A second slaying does little to take the spotlight off Harry. Instead it's clear someone is knocking off Harry's elderly peers in bizarrely effective ways. But who?

The odd gets odder when the prime suspect appears to be a bitter performer with a grudge...who committed suicide over 30 years before. While Eli struggles to prove his uncle's innocence - and keep them both alive - he finds himself embroiled in a battle of his own: A favorite magic routine of his has been ripped off by another hugely popular magician.

What began as a whirlwind vacation to London with girlfriend Megan turns into a fatal and larcenous trip into the dark heart of magic within the city's oldest magic society, the Magic Circle.

No one does intriguing magic and page-turning humor like John Gaspard. Pick it up and see if you can be the first to figure out the trick!

First off, I have COVID and feel like utter pants! So listening to a good mystery helps to keep my mind off feeling like poo. The setting of London is wonderful as a Londoner I appreciate it. I'm not going to lie Jim Cunningham's performance is fantastic despite having a few issues with accents going slightly awry. But fair play to him he is doing multiple characters and accents and did a bloody decent job! I can't even speak English well so... The characters as always are great. I did work out early on who was involved and then to find out I was nearly completely right was very enjoyable. The whole story is good and Jake is a massive... I am loving this book series. I binged this in two days.

This was great fun, it definitely cheered me up!

I like these Eli Marks books. They are fun and the magic adds an intriguing extra to the cozy mysteries. All is well until the narrator has to contend with foreign accents - his attempts at British accents are gloriously bizarre. Thank Goodness we’re back in the US for the next story.

Dreadful British accents.

I enjoy the Eli Marks books and this is probably my favourite so far.
The narrator usually gets full marks (no pun intended) but on this occasion I think the English accents bamboozled him slightly and most characters sounded like a typical cheeky cockney.
This didn't detract too much from the overall experience though and I look forward to the next in the series.

Great mystery but a few dodgy accents
