It’s a decade following WWI, in a small village of Nova Scotia. Maggie Conrad, a young war widow, lives with her father and younger brother, helping them manage a small store. After the sudden death of her father, Maggie finds their finances in shambles. Instead of moping around or choosing to "settle down", she decides to sell the store and relocate to the city in the hope of finding a job. Thus starts her adventure.
In an era before women’s empowerment, in a world still reeling from the Great War, and when rum runners defied prohibition, how will she carve a place for herself and keep her brother safe? And what secrets does John Murdock, her charming tenant harbour? Is John McInnis the answer to her prayers, or does he bring more trouble than he's worth? Celebrated narrator Jenny Hoops brings the Nova Scotia characters to vivid life, and keeps us engaged in Maggie's troubles and ultimate triumphs.
