From author MJ Porter, comes a thrilling new hero.

They sent 300 warriors to kill one man. It wasn’t enough.

Mercia lies broken but not beaten, her alliance with Wessex in tatters.

Coelwulf, a fierce and bloody warrior, hears whispers that Mercia has been betrayed from his home in the west. He fears no man, especially not the Vikings sent to hunt him down.

To discover the truth of the rumours he hears, Coelwulf must travel to the heart of Mercia, and what he finds there will determine the fate of Mercia, as well as his own.

A fantastic listen. I can’t wait until the others in the series are released. Action from start to finish.

I really enjoyed the story overall and will definitely seek out the rest of the series even if I did get a little tired of hearing the word “seax” and hope in future books it can be used with less frequency.
The narration was great and paced really well. My only critique would be that it felt a little ‘Southend’ at times, there wasn’t a massive distinction between character voices and battle intensity wasn’t really told differently to the rest of the story.
Even with its very minor criticisms, it’s still a great story and I enjoyed it.
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

“They better still live. If they don’t, I’ll kill them myself.”

A big fan of M J Porter, I have many of his titles. The story line in this book is good , the characters are also good , I like the story line BUT had to turn off after 3 chapters. The narrator NIGEL GORE is probably THE WORST I HAVE HEARD ON AUDIBLE, HE IS FLAT , MONOTONE , bring nothing to the characters and is plain tedious. I was looking forward to this series BUT until the narrator is changed I'll not be getting anymore titles in this series.
