Your perfect escape. Your worst nightmare.

DC Nicola McKenna promised her boyfriend Matt she would leave work behind for a romantic weekend in the Isle of Skye, but things get off to a bad start when a hotel mix-up leaves them stranded, just as a snowstorm is blowing in. Luckily, one last guest house on the island has room...

The couple is glad to reach the safety of The Loch House, especially with little George asleep in the back, but their relief is short-lived when they are given strange rules 'for their own good' and start to hear whispers of the house's dark past. Despite her scepticism, Nicola can't ignore the gnawing sense that there is something really wrong with this place. And when her son suddenly disappears, she starts to wonder if they will ever leave here alive...

As snow starts to fall, and night closes in, can Nicola solve the mystery of The Loch House before it claims another victim? Crime Thrillers Mystery Police Procedurals Supernatural Suspense Thriller & Suspense Heyecan verici

Story line was ok, struggled to keep my attention. Narration wasn’t great. Male reader very boring especially during the pod cast sections

An ok story

Well this one felt creepy right from the minute Alex McKenna, her son, George, and her boyfriend, Matt, stepped through the doors of the Loch House. I think I'd have turned right round and left but I guess that in a storm they didn't have any other option. As they check in they're presented with a set of rules by the strange owners! And when they meet their fellow guests they learn the terrible history of the house.

The story is quite original and very tension filled. In between chapters there are excerpts from a true crime podcast (this worked very well in the audible version!) which at first appear to have no connection to the story. There was a diverse range of characters - some likeable and some not so much. I particularly disliked Matt!

I enjoyed the narration by Guy Mott and Katy Sobey.

Follow the rules!

I normally enjoy the locked room mysteries but this one wasn’t to my taste. The characters were universally unlikeable and I didn’t enjoy the way the podcast was read. Story was pretty predictable.

Quite like it

The story and how it all came together was good. It was just the male reader that spoilt it for me. His accents and women impressions were terrible.

Good Crime story

This was a great listen. Perfect for a dark winter's night. The reading was first class and story line kept me booked from beginning to end.

Could not switch it off.
