Return to the Scholomance - a school of magic unlike any you have ever encountered - in the stunning sequel to the Sunday Times bestselling A Deadly Education, the start of Naomi Novik's ground-breaking crossover series.

There are no teachers, no holidays, friendships are purely strategic, and the odds of survival are never equal.
Once you're inside, there are only two ways out: you graduate or you die.

El, Orion, and the other students are faced with their final year - and the looming spectre of graduation. El is determined that her chosen group will survive, but it is a prospect that is looking harder by the day as the savagery of the school ramps up. Until El realizes that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules. . .

Wry, witty, endlessly inventive, and mordantly funny - yet with a true depth and fierce justice at its heart - this enchanting novel reminds us that there are far more important things than mere survival.

Amazing sequal to A Deadly Education!!
The world in which this story is set is superb, the location is truly an anti-Hogwarts with a lot of individual character of it's own. Realistic characters with their own believable strengths, weaknesses and reactions. It feels as if the author has taken a lot of time developing this from every angle, all possibilities that leave the reader unable to ask "why didn't they just do X, Y or Z", which is refreshing. The story has a nice balance or darkness, comedy, struggles, sweet moments, without ever feeling cliche or cheesy. The performance is also very good, the tone brought across is believable for the main character. 10/10 would recommend, and already have done to my bookaholic friend.

Fantastic

I have thoroughly enjoyed both books.

Narrator was great even if I was yelling “look up artificer and sophomore!” in to the void

Loved it! Rotherweird meets hogwarts

The last third of this book is pretty much unputdownable for me, can't stop til the end, it's so gripping! Really love this whole trilogy, book two has loads of lovely moments, some funny and some sad. By now I feel properly attached to the characters and can't wait to see what they do next. Narrator does a fantastic job, really sounds like the character and makes the story so immersive.

So exciting!

I really enjoyed the book, the pacing was good and the characters are interesting. I also like the single perspective.

The cliff-hanger was harsh

loved the story, loved the narrator

couple of editing errors (lines repeated) but barely notice them

but man I hope there is a third book to wrap it all up

why did it end?!?
