Özet

May 1945. Hitler is dead, and the Third Reich is little more than smoking rubble. No GI wants to be the last man killed in action against the Nazis. But for cigar-chewing, rough-talking, hard-drinking, hard-charging Captain Jack Lee and his men, there is one more mission: rescue 14 prominent French prisoners held in an SS-guarded castle high in the Austrian Alps. It's a dangerous mission, but Lee has help from a decorated German Wehrmacht officer and his men, who voluntarily join the fight.

Based on personal memoirs, author interviews, and official American, German, and French histories, The Last Battle is the nearly unbelievable story of the most improbable battle of World War II—a tale of unlikely allies, bravery, cowardice, and desperate combat between implacable enemies.

En alakalı
energetically written, but hardly substantial enough to justify a book, manyrepetitions, much guesswork. Not neccesarily worth the listening time

This is not full of action but full of surprising detail that keeps you interested. A very thoroughly researched book of a lesser known aspect of the war.

Unexpected

Great book

Once again, a good story marred by poor narration. Its so odd that book companies, especially audio book companies, allow poor narrative to slip through. Especially miss pronounced words. Or just the general fluency of a sentence. Still.... If you can put that aside, this story makes for interesting listening. Stephen Harding also has another book on a similar topic covering a Bomber crew. We'll worth the listen.

Good story marred by poor narration.
