At first the fireballs seemed to be nothing more than a dazzling display of lights in the sky, plunging into the deepest oceans and disappearing without trace. But, when ships started sinking inexplicably and the sea-lanes became impassable, it seemed that the world was facing a threat of unprecedented proportions. Mike and Phyllis Watson, both radio journalists, are caught up in the centre of events, well aware that it’s not the cold war or international conflicts that are causing these events, but something infinitely more deadly – an alien invasion. And that’s not all: the sea level is rising, the ice caps are melting, London and other cities are flooding, millions of people are drowning and ecological disaster looms. And, whatever the alien beings are, they have begun to emerge from the sea... A science fiction story full of contemporary resonances, from the fear of global warming to the distrust of official information and propaganda, and the ultimate fear of a challenge to the supremacy of human beings on Earth.© and (P)1998, 2007 BBC Audiobooks Ltd Entertainment & Performing Arts Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction Kurgu Adaptasyon

Loved it! This was a great production, totally recommend it to others. Will be buying more by John Wyndham.

A Good Scifi yarn

Personally found it just a little dull. Nothing stood out about this story at all.

Very Average

The Kraken Wakes is one of my favourite books and this radio version doesn't disappoint. Obviously dated but still excellent.

Considering the book was written in the 1950's, amazing how even then John Wyndham saw the melting of the ice caps as causing an ecological disaster!

A wonderful timeless story

I wasn't sure what to expect with a 'dramatised' version of one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors. Sure it was the BBC but...

I sure didn't want something that detracted from what I had already imagined. I usually buy unabridged and undramatised versions.

All I can conclude is wow.

Well done to the cast, writers, sound engineers and producers/directors. Thank you for sticking to the story, themes and atmosphere of the original.

I have added the rest of the set to my wishlist.

Wasn't sure ... but wow!

Really enjoyable to listen to in the car though I am missing my drive to work (CV-19) only because of this

Somewhat dated but still relevant story
