1782 First officer on brig o'war . . .

a very good book from a great series, if you liked hornblower, this is better.

good easy fun ...an enjoyable light read but who bloody cares ? well I guess I do .... gonna have to listen to the next one

Guns and thunder tale, historic naval warfare descriptions good, excellent narration. The unnecessary detail of coupling is superfluous.

The story was very enjoyable an interesting mix of history and fiction. The narration was also good.

Great story with interesting characters

The lead character is developing well in this book, not the clean cut do-gooder of many novels but a muddled and challenged soul being shaped as his journey continues.
Not sure on why the bedroom moments get such detail but far more annoying is the continual chafe of mispronunciation by the narrator. Overall narration is pretty good (dodgy effort at the Scandinavian character!) but regular incorrect knowledge of nautical terms (fo’csle - go all, bulwark - bullock, leadsman -Leeds man etc) takes the edge of off the performance.
Notwithstanding that - a very good listen!
