Prince's College, Cambridge, is a peaceful and scholarly community, enlivened by Prudence Pinsent, the Master's daughter.

Spirited, beautiful, and thoroughly unconventional, Prudence is a remarkable young woman. One fine morning she sets out for Suffolk to join her cousin Lord Wellende for a few days hunting. On the way Prudence encounters Captain Studde of the coastguard who is pursuing a quarry of his own.

Studde is on the trail of a drug smuggling ring that connects Wellende Hall with the cloistered world of Cambridge. It falls to Prudence to unravel the identity of the smugglers who may be forced to kill to protect their secret.

Something like a Nancy Mitford. Super character and period detail of Cambridge and old country house life. It is a little gem written with fluency and style. I can understand people who are looking for a classic whodunnit giving lower stars. But as a gently teasing description of an independent girl and her adventure, it is perfectly formed and it’s obvious why it was chosen to be part of this series.

Great fun.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it reflects the mores of its period, holds your attention to the end and is worthy of an Austen writing between the wars, several generations on.
I hope her other novels will soon be available on audible.

beautifully written and a compelling read

There was nothing I disliked about that, but I found it incredibly the language of the day as far as I know it wasn’t alive and I mean I wasn’t alive but I thought it was a really really well paced book and I’m amazed I’ve never heard of her because I love you some British library Classics I think crime Classics I think they’re fabulous so I’ve enjoyed so many of them and I really encourage you to do a pony as you can I love the narration I look very well paste and yeah I thought the whole thing was great actually and it was it felt like I went back to that time which is a lot of the things that are written today just cannot capture. I mean I’m old enough to hurt this sort of language was used in that book. It was still used in the 50s when I came to England as a child but there’s people have gone now and I say things and you don’t know what I mean. It is a great book and I really enjoyed it. It’s not gonna be Taxi and it’s highly enjoyable not superior Colour that’s excellent.
