Malcolm Fox and his team are back, investigating whether fellow cops covered up for Detective Paul Carter. Carter has been found guilty of misconduct, but what should be a simple job is soon complicated by a brutal murder and a weapon that should not even exist.

A trail of revelations leads Fox back to 1985, a year of desperate unrest when letter-bombs and poisonous spores were sent to government offices, and kidnappings and murders were plotted. But while the body count rises the clock starts ticking, and a dramatic turn of events sees Fox in mortal danger.

I loved The Complaints and this is a worthy successor. An excellent example of Rankin's twisted mind - just when you think you've sussed it he throws another spanner in the works. Peter Forbes is yet again the best person to read this. Each character is clearly defined and he draws you into the story. First Class!

Excellent

I found the book very complicated with many different characters being introduced. I listened until the end which was quite a long time coming. That said, it kept me listening until the end.

Not a Rebus story

Gripping. Fox is an interesting character - very compelling and totally different from Rankin's long-time anti-hero: Rebus. This is multi-layered, complex, sophisticated. A great listen.

Rankin has created another unforgettable detective in Malcolm Fox. An excellent book, which keeps you guessing all the way through. Very believable characters and I enjoyed the rapport between the three detectives. Looking forward to the next 'Complaints' book

Rankin at his best

I expected more of the same as the Rebus series but although well read it was a bit too political for my liking. This may be just my taste as it did keep me listening to the end.

A bit long winded
