Book one in the Elite Hockey Series, this friends to lovers romance is based in the UK, written in British English (with consideration to dialect used by our Canadian MMC). A low-angst sports romance with spicy action sprinkled in.

Meet Ryan and Jenna....

One season. I just need to stick it out for one season.

Ryan Preston has done seven years in the NHL; he worked hard to get there, and he's all set up to sign a fresh contract. That's until his twin brother, Liam, calls in the ultimate favour. Liam asks Ryan to play a season in the UK in his place, because now's Liam's chance to play in the big league. Ryan agrees because it's just for one season, right? He'll be back home in Canada before he knows it.

I always told myself no hockey players....

Jenna Roberts has been surrounded by hockey her entire life. Her best friend plays for the city's team and her uncle is a coach for the junior team; she knows what hockey players are like. She's newly single, on the hunt for a new job and has to move back in with her parents. With a series of failed dating attempts, she's done.

When Jenna and Ryan find themselves spending more and more time together, they're certain they can just be friends, right?

Tropes include:

  • Team mates best friend
  • Cinnamon Roll MMC
  • Curvy FMC
  • Friends to lovers

I adore everything about this book. The narration is perfect, and so easy to listen to. The book had me hooked straight away and it felt realistic in the best way. Can't wait for the rest of the series to release on audio

I don’t think I’ve ever flown through an audiobook this fast. From the very first chapter I was completely hooked, and I loved every second of it.
The narrators brought the story to life in a way that made it impossible to pause.
Ryan — a Canadian ice hockey player heading to the UK for one season — felt so real and layered. And Jenna, a loyal supporter of her local team, was instantly relatable. Their shared love of the sport created such a natural, electric connection, and hearing their story unfold through audio made it even more immersive.
The emotion, the chemistry, the atmosphere of the rink — it all came alive. I genuinely lost track of time and ended up listening until 2am on my first night because I was so engrossed. I kept telling myself “just one more chapter”… and then suddenly it was the early hours.
If you do one thing for yourself this year, make it pressing play on this audiobook. Put your headphones in and let yourself get completely swept up in this story. You won’t regret it. 🖤🏒

I’m low-key obsessed with this!

I came for the hockey but stayed for Ryan Preston🥵

The chemistry felt so natural, the emotional moments really hit, and watching Ryan actually grow had me fully invested. Confident but soft underneath? Say less.

Huge thank you to Aly Clarke for the audio ARC I loved every second and already want to reread. 💙
