THE ICEHOUSE

"A moody, enveloping crime thriller." — SPR Editorial Review

A MURDERER ON THE LOOSE
A DETECTIVE HAUNTED BY THE PAST
A RACE AGAINST TIME

DCI Jonathan Walker is a senior detective with the Lancashire Constabulary in North West England — haunted by the past and driven by a need for redemption.

When a body is discovered in the quiet village of Rufford, Walker cuts short his leave of absence and returns to lead the investigation. But when the crime begins to mirror the decades-old murder of his sister, the case becomes dangerously personal.

As more victims disappear and bodies begin to surface with the same disturbing signature, Walker and his team realise they are hunting a serial killer.

With time running out and another life hanging in the balance, Walker is forced to confront the past he's spent years trying to bury — and decide how far he is willing to go to stop the killer, even if it means breaking the rules himself.

The Icehouse is the gripping debut novel in the DCI Walker Crime Thrillers series.

Perfect for listeners who enjoy Ann Cleeves, Peter James, and LJ Ross.

Each book can be listened to as a standalone, but the full story is best enjoyed in order.

Omg this was an amazing novel. The characters, the plot, the narration. Everything was brilliant. Since I live in Leyland and it was set locally, it was even better. Thank you so much JJ, I’ve now bought the rest of the series to enjoy. And recommended it to my daughter.

AMAZING

This Audible book appeared to be another standard detective story. In fact it was very good and different from most of its genre. The characters were normal and vulnerable yet driven to succeed. I found the story line interesting without being macabre - the ending apart. I recommend it

Outstanding and different

For most of the story I was engaged.
The ending and conclusion of investigation seemed unsatisfactory.

Plot and narrator disappointing

I came to this book after listening to the author being interviewed on BBC radio 4 and I’m glad I did. Usually I read historical novels but is good to break outside the genre occasionally and this appealed. Listening to it on long journeys I enjoyed the characters, the narration and the plot. The narrator was probably reading it with an older voice than the main Detective and conjoined an aging unattractive character in my head until the journalist gave him her number and it became evident he was not so old and might even be attractive!
It was a good story for those who find it difficult to imagine scenes as they were realistically described without being laboured. I will seek out another at some point.

Described well without labouring

I enjoyed this book. The story was engaging and it was good to hear the place names that I'd known all my life. One thing though I have to say as a lifelong PNE supporter, that they play in Navy shorts not black! I will certainly be reading any further books by this author. Many thanks

A good Northern read!
