Barbara was 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital, Aston Hall, in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But during her stay, Barbara was systematically drugged and abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner. Somehow, eventually, she started to campaign for answers. This is a shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care.©2017 Barbara O'Hare (P)2018 W. F. I had a pretty traumatic childhood that was rife with bullying from my peers and family members, but i remember very little about my childhood years overall. Its highly likely this is partly due to me repressing those memories but i do remember the odd parts from time to time, mainly times around the physical and emotional abuse but very little about what was said at those times.
I always find it a bit strange how books like this one recount full, detailed conversations that occurred when someone was young, in this book these conversations start when she is just 5 years old. I am in no way saying this means they are made up, i just find it hard to believe the conversations are 100% accurate.
Nevertheless this is a really good book and tells the story of a heartbreaking childhood and blood boiling abuse on children. There is something fundamentally wrong with the justice system when people who carry out such abuses are allowed to get away with it for so long, when the people around them are fully aware of what is going on. Barbara is a hero for so many for coming forward and initiating the investigations into what happened at that hospital.

A well told heartbreaking story

An amazing woman.and a truly amazing book. I've cried and laughed with Barbara and some of her experiences were hard to read. . as a victim of abuse I could identify with the the experiences she was writing about. I'd recommend this book to anyone..
