DEATH HAS COME TO AEMILIUS.

It is the twentieth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius Caesar Augustus. The Empire spans the known world. No power is greater, and nothing can threaten the peace it brings. And no one must know of the horrors that haunt it.

Aemilius thought he would die heroically in battle like his forefathers, mourned by a loving wife and many children, but he’s barely a man when a harpy flies down out of the old myths and knocks him from his horse. Stunned and helpless, he waits for his end … and is saved.

Formed on the bloody battlefield of Teutoburg, the Hidden Legion are an order of soldiers, magicians, and rogues so secret that the Empire itself would hunt them down if they were exposed. And now Aemilius is one of them.

A darkness is growing across the Empire, and someone is setting traps for the Legion themselves. Aemilius and his new comrades set off on the hunt for an unknown enemy …

What is there to dislike about this book? If you like magic and different sorts of magic, and Romans, then this is the book for you.

I wasn't as happy with the reader, but that is personal choice (he is American with American pronunciation, I am English). Saying that though, I knew which character was speaking at any one time as his voices are very distinct.

Roll on book 2, I am eager to find out the next episodes in the legions varied career.

good narration, fascinating concept, interesting characters, about 90-95% well written....my only issue is that it leaves a very central question very unanswered....with no hint of it will ever be answered. it began to be addressed....then was never talked about again. this hurt my sense of immersion in the story, but not enough to stop me being eager to read and or hear the next book

Left me wanting more stories set in this world....but also answers
