A hundred years ago, a man with a secret could travel a few hundred miles and give himself a new name and life story. No one would be any the wiser, as long as he didn’t give anyone a reason to start asking questions. These days, that’s not so easy, with everyone on social media and CCTV on every street corner. So Daniel Mackmain keeps his head down and keeps himself to himself. But now a girl has been murdered and the Derbyshire police are taking a closer look at a loner who travels from place to place, picking up work as he goes. Worse, Dan realises the murder involves the hidden world he was born into. When no one else can see the truth, who will see justice done? A modern fantasy rooted in the ancient myths and folklore of the British Isles.©2018 Juliet E. McKenna (P)2019 W. F. Howes Ltd Classics Fantastik Kurgu Sihir

A crime thriller and a traditional urban fantasy story. It's great fun. The narrator is very natural and tells the story beautifully.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Really pleased to have both.
Listen the audio before sleeping, and I’m still keen to know what happens next, even though I’ve read before.
Will Huggins brings Dan to life well. Looking forward to the later books

Have both the book and the audio

So wanted to love this book. Loved the concept and characters but - in my view - it needs a really sharp edit. I survived the repetition of the protagonists thoughts as you want to know the outcome. But please dear author trust your readers...we don't need spoon-feeding...if you want to keep your readers know that we can fill in the blanks. I'd like to read more.

Great Premise

It’s a relatively simple story, but nicely composed and nicely read, with a good cadence throughout
