The four Grace sisters love their quiet life in the country village of Chevis Green. To some, their insular world might seem dull, but the sisters never seem to run out of conversation, jokes, and pleasant ways to pass the time together. They truly are the happiest of families. That is, until Aunt Rona comes to town.

Rona intends to stay with the Graces indefinitely, and her meddlesome attitude immediately sets the sisters' teeth on edge. Throw in another unexpected houseguest, some potential suitors and a case of mistaken intentions, and the members of the Grace family suddenly find themselves quite out of their element. Will they manage to make it through the summer and return to their quiet ways?

The story was just as I remembered, but the performance made it so much better.
Look forward to reading more D.E. Stevenson and especially if Karen reads them.

Really enjoyable

This narrator has an irritating trick at the end of sentences when narrating female voices. It makes all the female characters sound slightly whiny - it gets worse as the characters go down the social scale. It’s put me off finishing the book.

Good book, irritating narrator

Easy listening, village life story. Great performance by the reader too. Very pleasant to dream to.

A delight to the ears

So easy to listen to. Very well read. I have loved her books for years, as I know my mother did before me! And an accessible switch-off even now I have long covid. Thank you.

An old favourite
