His last challenge: live long enough to save the lives of those he loves.

Cold-blooded killer JimBone Wheeler blames Tom McMurtrie for putting him on death row. He once vowed that he’d bring “a reckoning” on Tom and everyone the southern lawyer holds dear. When Wheeler escapes from prison, he aims to fulfill his promise. Victim by victim, he’s getting closer to his ultimate target. But for Tom, who’s dying of cancer, the role of savior and protector is a struggle that is becoming more desperate by the hour.

As the body count mounts, Tom, his partner, Rick Drake, and his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, brace for a confrontation like nothing they have ever faced before. This battle will be waged not in a courthouse but on the streets and fields of north Alabama. With all those he loves at risk, Tom must save his family, his friends, and his legacy from a killer whose hunger for retribution knows no bounds.

Now, as time ticks down and fate and vengeance close in, who will survive Wheeler’s final reckoning?

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I must say that this series has been one of the most enjoyable and engrossing. Bailey has created a rich cast of characters, each with their own story and weaved around them a four book narrative that never slows or fails to keep you wanting more. Each of them could easily have their own series of stories. If that happens, I for one will look forward to them all.

A fitting end to a brilliant series

I have really enjoyed these books. I've liked how the characters have evolved, and the way their stories have developed over time. I'm not a spoiler so I'm not going to allude to the actual plots themselves, you'll have to read them. Well done for the Audible version too. Being able to maintain different characters voices, both culturally and being male or female! A skill. I like to switch about using both mediums. Late at night 🌙 I just hook the earplugs and listen. At other times I like to listen and read. Enjoy.

Wonderful progression.

I have enjoyed this series but found this one quite hard to follow with its large cast of characters even though I had read the other books. It does rely upon previous knowledge of the story. Good narration.

I enjoyed it but
