The ships came at dawn. Dean’s wife is dead. Her last words: When the ships come...wear the necklace. Then the ships arrived.

Cities all around the world reported strange alien vessels descending. Some saw them as the heralds of a new age; others fired everything they had at them. All were taken as the beams lashed down and drew them into the sky.

Dean was left behind, seemingly the last man on Earth. A trail of clues left by his dead wife guides Dean on a perilous journey across America and beyond to learn the truth behind the mysterious ships and save humanity from its doom.

But not everything is as it seems.

The Event is the epic first novel by Nathan Hystad, creator of the best-selling Explorations anthology series.

Excellent premise but I felt it was poorly executed. Didn't prompt me into buying the second book in the series - at times it felt like a chore. Started to slow down significantly as the story went on, and became somewhat predictable.

Narrator's performance was on point but the book didn't give him any justice.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Narration? Average. occasional flash of humour but not much.

Story? Average. unimpressive. Reminded me of the kind of stories I used to write when I was under 10.

Basic premise is "ok" but save your credit, the delivery is not worth it.

Distinctly average

This is the embodiment of a B Movie.
It is bad, at least it is short.
The story seemed interesting in the beginning, then it seemed idiotic. After that I gave it another chance since it admitted it was idiotic.
In the end the question of who are the bad aliens gets a little plot twist, I did appreciate that.
Still perfect B movie.
In the end it is still a waste of time.

Although I listened to this entire book from start to finish, (it took me 3 days to get through) and it was enjoyable enough to listen too, I didn’t really feel any connection to the lead character, Dean.

In fact, I felt more interested in the story arc of two side characters (who turned up much, much later in the plot).

Honestly, the story started slow (way too slow) for the longest while. Yet the overall plot has just enough interesting side-plots/twists to keep you interest for a while.

Slow start to the main plot...
