In a world monitored by mind-manipulating implants, one young woman will risk everything for liberty.

Brooklyn, 2095. Seventeen-year-old Riley Taylor longs to escape the crushing poverty of the slums. Stuck with her best friend in a totalitarian police state, their only hope of freedom is joining the military. But when Riley gets ripped away from him in their first brutal combat, she’s shocked to discover why so many recruits come home in coffins.

Ultimately reunited on the front lines in the war for dwindling natural resources, she’s devastated to learn they wiped his memory. As they fight side by side, she vows to survive long enough to restore his recollection of their lost friendship. But with her state-issued chip recording her every move, digging into the corrupt regime could prove deadlier than the battlefield....

Can Riley save her best friend before the government steals her last shot at a new future?

Compelling distopian story with sometimes frustrating charecters ending with strong charecter growth. Though the writing struggled with it's rythm being jagged and difficult it was saved by an excelent narrater. All in all, I am eager to know what happens next.

Jagged but compelling

Not even finished this book yet but I know I will be getting the rest of the Lens series. The narrator is excellent at setting the mood and bringing to life the authors characters, I can see this is one series that I will be sad when it ends and will listen again many times in the future. It says it is aimed at teens and young adults but I am in my 50's and absolutely recommend it for older adults too.

Good easy listen

Like the idea and story. The beginning got me into the book easily. Later on the repetitive inner conflict of the main character got a bit much. The inner conflict is necessary to allow the character to grow but it was a bit irritating at times. It got a bit better near the end thoug.

Good story, bit too much inner conflict

It’s not really my type of story but it held my attention and was cropping at times. Just not my cup of tea too dark but interesting take on the future

Ok

story was okay, didn't interest me enough to continue the series. Excellently narrated though. Thankyou.
